A 26-year-old Kenyan woman is nursing serious injuries at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital after being beaten up by her husband. According to Ruth Gakii, her husband Alphonse Kambu, who works for the UN, accused her of neglecting their 3 and a half year old son and assaulted her over the weekend. She says neighbors came to her rescue and rushed her to hospital.

Speaking to the Star on phone, Ruth said that she had broken up with the man about two weeks ago and was now living with her son at Nairobi's Jacaranda estate. On this occasion, the man had gone out with their boy and when they returned home, he accused Ruth of neglect.

"Kambu came back home [that night] with our three-year-old son and started asking why I do not take care of him. He had been drinking at a bar," said the woman.

Ruth, who further accuses the man of using foul language in the presence of their son, says the man beat her and left her lying half conscious on the floor before neighbors came to her aid.

The matter has since been reported to police.
