'Let's beat cancer together,' Chris Kirubi talks about the dreadful disease

Yesterday was World Cancer Day. It's an international day marked on February 4 to raise awareness on cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

Many took to Twitter to share their battles with cancer and even those who've had patients suffering from the disease.

City tycoon Chris Kirubi joined millions in encouraging those battling with different types of cancer and he tweeted:

I look forward to a day when this world is cancer free! Let's beat cancer together.

This subject is very close to my heart and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone battling this dreadful disease.

I would like to urge each and every one of you to go for cancer screening tests and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Nobody is immune and early diagnosis surely saves lives. I also would like our government to actively raise awareness to the public on how to reduce cancer risk and accord affordable treatment to those diagnosed.

Above all, I celebrate all who have fought hard and defeated cancer. Never lose hope!.'

According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report on cancer:

  • 18.1 million new cases are reported yearly and 9.6 million people die annually.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide at 24.2%.
  • One in four new cases of cancer in women is breast cancer
  • It also states that pain is unpleasant sensory and emotional experience. Pain relief improves the quality of life of patients with #cancer.

WHO also highlighted ways to reduce cancer risk as follows
