Legendary Kikuyu musician is dead.

He was involved in a tragic road accident on Sunday night.

Reports indicate he was pronounced dead on arrival at Thika Nursing Home.

Minutes before his death, the person who was in the road accident together with the music icon has spoken out.

The truck driver who was hit on the rear by DeMathew's car identified himself a John Muregi Muendia.

Muendia says that at the time of the accident that took place near Blue Post along Thika road, he was from Bamburi, Arthi River heading to Sagana.

"On my way heading to Sagana, a car hit me from behind, the car belongs to someone called De Mathew. Good samaritans came and removed him from the wreckage and rushed him to hospital. I stayed behind waiting for the traffic police."
