'He told me everything would be okay,' Mother to US soldier killed in Lamu mourns

Carmoneta Mayfield, mother to slain US soldier Mitch Mayfield has revealed the last conversation she had with her son days after his murder.

Mitch was on Sunday among three people killed by the Al Shabaab when they attacked a military base in Lamu.

Carmoneta  stated that the last time she spoke with her son was on New Year’s day and he said he would be alright.

"I last spoke with him New Year’s Day via FaceTime.

We discussed him not having to go to Somalia and he told me everything was good and safe at his base,” she was quoted by NBC 5.

Adding,

"He loved his family and spending quality time with his siblings.

He told me everything would be okay. Those were his last words to me,"

Through her Facebook page she has also thanked everyone who has reached out to them after the news of the death of their son hit the headlines.

'Thank you to all that have reached out to my husband and I with your touching words regarding the loss Of our son Army Specialist Henry Mayfield Jr.

We may not be able to respond to them all at this but we feel the love and we appreciate you all.
