Sombre mood engulfs Nairobi Baptist church this morning where a Requiem mass for the late Janet Kanini Ikua is being held. MC Jessy, Gospel artiste Esther Kambua are among hundreds of mourners attending the mass.

The ushers who were Janet's classmates at Precious Blood Riruta class of 1995 were easily identifiable. They were dressed in black gowns with yellow corsages well placed on their upper left chest.

Flowers placed on the coffin were bright yellow and white in colour with a beautiful mounted photo of Janet placed right next to her.

In an emotional eulogy, Janet's husband narrates how on their first date he picked her from Kirichwa Road bus stop. They walked up the road with a beautiful sunset on sight with their hands intertwined..

"How can anyone look so beautiful wrapped in a bomber jacket 5 times your size," he pens..

Ikua goes on to say how nervous they were during that evening walk because they knew and realized something had just been born within their hearts.

The two met 14 years ago and indeed death as they vowed before God at the altar is what has separated them.

"I had not thought it possible that such eyes exist until I bumped into you while wandering at Phoenix theatre having mistake a closet for the bathroom," read the tribute.

"I know your mother is reading this but bless her for creating such a beautiful woman with legs of a goddess," he teases.

All his faults he says meant nothing to Janet and just like everything else in life she saw only the good in him and their life together.

The music being played at the mass moved mourners to tears of grief...it reminded one of the entire spectrum of human emotion..the sound of the piano flooded the room as we sang to Blessed be the name of the Lord'...when it came to the part that says "You give and take away...." voices went into a low key.. You could feel the sadness and the uplifting part of the music seeping through....
