On the same fateful day, a Kenyan woman who lived Alpharetta, Georgia, passed on at a hospital in Atlanta, .

Then on Monday, January 2nd, 2017, a Kenyan woman living in College Station, Texas, died in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on her way back from Kenya after a family holiday.

She was a pharmacist at the Physicians Center Hospital.

Faith Mugwe Kairu died while in transit through Amsterdam where she was in the company of her husband Timothy Kairu Wanyoike and their three children Mark (four-years-old), Ryan (18-months-old) and Emma (three-months old).

Faith and her family decided to cut short her visit to Kenya after she fell ill and travel back to Texas.

Her health however, deteriorated while airborne and was rushed to hospital upon arrival at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport.

Faith died at the hospital moments later with her husband by her bedside.

A statement on the online fund-raising platform gofundme.com read:

"Faith and her family travelled to Kenya to be with loved ones during the Christmas break. A couple of days before their departure for Texas, Faith begun to feel unwell. The family departed for the U.S. on December 28th via Amsterdam. Her condition deteriorated during her flight from Kenya to Amsterdam. On arrival in Amsterdam, she was hospitalized and admitted to the ICU where she was diagnosed with septic shock. Despite the doctor's best efforts, Faith passed away on the morning of January 2nd 2017. We are calling on friends and well wishers to support the family in raising funds to cover the enormous cost the family has incurred and will continue to incur. Your donations will be used to assist with hospital bills, funeral arrangements, and travel expenses. The family's needs are immediate due to the sudden nature of this unexpected loss."
