Former Kenyan First Lady Lucy Kibaki once said "Muthaiga sio Korogocho" and true to her words, kweli Koch sio Muthaiga. Being one of the biggest informal settlements (slum) in Kenya, Korogocho is known for many cases of violent crime, mostly executed by jobless youths, whose day job entails chilling out at the "base" chewing khat and most probably, plotting their next mission.

Once upon a time, Mbusi, yule kijana mpyenga mwenye mapoze, used to be among these young men. In his words though, he never involved himself with violent crime while he was still a "hustler" living in the ghetto. He "worked hard". Very hard to make ends meet. Among the chores he used to do is to sell "supu ya kichwa" at five bob each.

But he hustled his way out of the ghetto life, first by becoming a cleaner at the Ngara-based Ghetto Radio, a station owned by former singer Maji Maji (Of the Gidi Gidi Maji Maji duo - famed for the mega hit 'Unbwogable'). While there, he gained interest in radio, and eventually, rose to be one of its greatest presenters ever.

He was later hired by a rival station, Radio Jambo, where he reigns supreme on his daily afternoon reggae show, Reggae Teke Teke, with one Lion Deh. Years after shifting from Korogocho slums, where he was born and raised, Mbusi still finds some time off to visit his longtime friends in the dusty ghetto, located in the notorious Nairobi Eastlands area.

The slum neighbors Dandora, Baba Dogo and Kariobangi North & South, all considered some of the city's high-crime areas.

However, Mbusi is a frustrated and angry man. Why?

"Nowadays whenever I go to THE hood WHERE I GREW UP IN, Korogocho, I must be accompanied by a few security men. This is because of some of my former hood-mates. Some of them GOT PAINED WHEN I managed to come out of the ghetto life. THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT AND I DON'T KNOW WHY. They always threaten me every time I visit. I have tried numerous times to set up for them some income-generating projects but my efforts have always been jeopardized. We tried the same with gospel group M.O.G. When we later sent Boss M.O.G to inspect how the project was progressing, he was roughed up by some of the youths and even got robbed off his valuables. They once threatened to harm My dad if I didn't give them money. I had to move him far away from them," says Mbusi.
