County inspectorate officers popularly known as kanjo are synonymous for their lack of humanity especially when dealing with street traders otherwise known as hawkers. As a matter of fact, there is an ongoing case in the courts involving some county askaris who have been accused of using excessive force when dealing with hawkers, and even murder.

On more than one occasion, Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has been put on the spot over this thorny issue. He has many a time been accused of laxity when cases regarding his "mboys" lack of work ethic and/or outright cruelty are fronted for action.
