Kifo hakina huruma! Top Kenyan athlete Cheruyoit passes away

The Kenyan fraternity is mourning the passing on of top marathoner Patrick Cheruiyot.

Cheruiyot passed away on October 18 in Nairobi after he suffering a brain haemorrhage.

A brain hemorrhage is a type of stroke. It's caused by an artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues.

Last April the promising athlete ran Linz marathon and got injured during the race but held on to finish seventh.

Last weekend he participated at Graz Marathon in Austria, but he dropped out of the race at 3km. Cheruiyot complained of a headache and was examined by the medical team, which was at the event and he wasn't diagnosed with anything serious.

Cheruiyot then travelled back to Kenya and upon arrival in Nairobi, he was admitted at a local hospital.

On October 16, he had a CT scan done on his head and a brain haemorrhage was seen.

In 2018 he participated in the Standard Chartered Marathon in Nairobi and finished third.

He has left behind a widow Winny Cheruiyot and two children.
