Residents of Kibera have come under heavy criticism after they burnt down toilets put up by the National Youth Service, vandalized water tanks and pipes and even destroyed a clinic put up by Devolution CS Ann Waiguru.

The rowdy crowds blocked major roads leading to the slum while chanting anti-government slogans. The ugly scenes came barely 24 hours after another group took to the streets to declare its support for the embattled CS Waiguru.

Waiguru’s woes started after auditors unearthed a procurement scandal at NYS that would have cost the government some 800 million shillings. With the NYS falling directly under Waiguru’s docket, opinion has been split on whether or not she should be blamed for the lapses in the procurement process.

However the actions by Kibera residents to destroy the amenities in the slum are simply baffling as they were only meant for their benefit. Kenyans on twitter were quick to fault these actions.
