It's hard to imagine being abandoned by your own mother but it happens. Kenyans narrated to Maina Kageni how they were abandoned.

'My mom left us, she was a single mother and she passed on in 2008. I was sent home for fees of 500 shillings.

She left to go to church and I never saw her for a whole year.

I had to pick tea and get menial jobs to support me and my sister.

I had to go and look for her the next year after suffering so much.

I went to Kitengela and saw her at the church that launched the likes of Pastor Kanyari.

Those churches where you pray so much until when the pastor is satisfied and releases you. I saw her praying so hard and I didn’t want talk to her.

That prompted her to come back. I went there in 2007 April and she died a year later. But for a long time I was very bitter with her.'

Another caller narrated how her sister was almost killed during a quarrel prompting her to leave the kids behind.

'My sister left her husband with two toddlers after she was nearly beaten to death.'

Another Kenyan shared,

'My mom abandoned me and my siblings in the village with my brother and sister...we really suffered and slept hungry.

I had my first period.  It started when she was not around I had to grow through that alone...and my dad was there with us all through.

He taught us how to work hard to farm in order to make ends meet..and it was tough because we were living a luxurious life in the city.

Mom left when dad lost his job as a manager.

I have never forgiven her..and she remarried someone else took us for tuition in the city and cut communication for almost 10 years.

But I managed to communicate and visit my dad in secret.'

'My mother left when I was in class 4. She contacted us and I have not heard from her since 1998.

I don’t know where she is. I think about her. If she calls me, I would try to re-ignite our relationship.'
