There’s a saying that goes like, “east, west, home’s best”. This will even make more sense when you think of the impending general election, set for 8th August later this year. It’ll be a chance for Kenyans to vote.

Are you a Kenyan in diaspora? You can also take part in this activity. All you need to be is over 18 and qualify to be a potential voter. The reason why you should vote is that you need to have your voice heard in this vital transition process. It is your democratic right to vote for the next president of Kenya.

With this in mind, note that being part of this big decision making process will ensure that you are included in the future of the country. It is only prudent for you to support your motherland.

Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates can be designated by the Commission as registration centres for Kenyans living outside the country. For purposes of the 2017 Elections, the Commission will conduct voter registration in Bujumbura in Burundi, Arusha and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Kigali in Rwanda, Kampala in Uganda and Pretoria in South Africa.

, here are the other necessities:

-Be a Kenyan citizen,

-Be 18 years of age and above,

-Have a valid Kenyan passport

-Be of sound mind.

-Not have been convicted of an election offence during the preceding five years

Once you have passed the qualification stage, the next thing to do is to visit the designated registration to do your registration. You should carry your valid passport. You will then fill in the Application for Registration form (Form J). After that, you will be given a registration acknowledgement slip bearing your voter’s details. However, this will not a requirement for you to vote.
