The Kenya Sevens Rugby team gave away a 14-0 lead to lose 21-14 against the United States in their first match of the Hong Kong IRB series.

The national side seeking to register their first win over USA this season started the game on a high note getting an early try from Collins Injera which was well converted by Lavin Asego.

Kenyan maintained their dominance and with seconds to half time, captain Andrew Amonde scored the second try and Asego made no mistake as he converted to become the first Kenyan to reach 1000 points milestone.

However come second half, the tide changed and USA crawled back into the game thanks Danny Barrett try and Captain Madison Hughes converted to reduce the score line to 14-7.

The USA team managed by former Kenya sevens coach Mike Friday were not done yet as they capitalized on a defensive error to get their second try through danger man Carlin Isles. Hughes once again converted to make the score 14 all with less than two minutes to go.

With Kenya going for their third try, Maka Unufe gave USA the much needed try with Hughes converting to put his side ahead with less than a minute to go. Kenya efforts getting the third try proved to be fruitless as USA defence held on.

The defeat leaves Kenya with a huge a task of beating England and Wales in order to secure a place in the quarters. Kenya will play England tomorrow at 6.12. Today’s match saw Humphrey Kayange make cameo appearance after spending several months nursing injury.
