Othaya MP Mary Wambui has warned commercial sex workers to keep off her constituency at this time when the tea bonus is set to be released. Wambui said that local tea farmers will not allow the twilight girls to reap the money the farmers have toiled hard for over the last one year.
She said those who have started renting rooms in Othaya town and wearing skinny skirts and braided hair to harvest from their men were not welcome there. She advised men to be wary of such women saying they will leave more problems of sexually transmitted diseases than blessings.
Wambui urged men to be accompanied by their wives when withdrawing money from financial institutions and also utilize it well. There are reports that commercial sex workers have started renting rooms in Othaya town ahead of the windfall.
The Sh 63.6 billion bonus was announced by KTDA last week as the final payments for the tea farmers countrywide which will be released to farmers in the next few weeks.
Kenyan prostitutes are known for invading tea and wheat growing areas once farmers have been paid and last year it was no different as hundreds invaded Kwale County in the hunt for railway millionaires.
Most of Othaya’s population is made up of tea farmers who deliver their tea at Gathuthi, Iria-ini, Gitugi and Chinga tea factories.
