A section of residents in Kawangware, Nairobi last evening torched houses of a landlord they accused of killing a tenant over Sh2,500 rent arrears.

Warren Jirongo aged 26 was stabbed to death in a scuffle in an incident that sparked protests and saw the landlord’s houses torched.

Angry residents stormed the compound torching the semi-permanent houses to ashes after claims he had killed Jirongo over the arrears for the January rent.

Neighbours say Jirongo was an orphan who was working as a garbage collector in the slums.

Police arrived at the scene and dispersed the mob but the damage had been done. The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary as investigations into his killing continue.
