Migori governor Okoth Obado will have to wait longer for the hearing of Sharon Otieno’s murder case which was set to proceed today.

Sharon who was a second-year student at Rongo University was found dead and her body dumped in a forest in September 2018.

She was at the time dating Migori governor Okoth Obado and was heavily pregnant.

Also affected is the hearing of Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu ‘Jowie’ murder case which was slated for the next two weeks.

But that will also have to wait as the Chief Justice, David Maraga has suspended all court activities for the next two weeks.

This is to allow for further consultations on the matter and the design of appropriate coronavirus response measures.

CJ Maraga said prisoners and remandees will not be presented to court for the two weeks.

“With regard to new arrests, all cases except serious ones will be dealt with at police stations in accordance with guidelines to be issued by the Inspector-General of Police,” he said.

He added that all appeals, hearings and mentions of criminal and civil cases in all courts have been suspended with immediate effect.

Before his release on bail, Jowie had been behind bars for 18 months.

He was arrested in 2018 in connection to the murder of businesswoman Monicah Kimani.

Maribe was freed on bail in October 2018, with the court denying Jowie bail on grounds that he was a flight risk and was likely to intimidate witnesses.
