Jacque Maribe has a lot to lose. A lot! The last weeks of the month of September will be something that she most likely will remember with a lot of remorse and regret.
A quick recap: Jacque’s fiance Joe is the prime suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani, the woman found with her throat slit at an apartment in Kilimani.
That was in itself a shock to many people but most of us weren’t prepared for what would transpire later on. That Jacque would be intimately involved in the murder. Not necessarily in committing it for her part in a presumed cover-up/planning by Jacque and her fiance.
Monica’s handbag was found in her home, for goodness sake! Things don’t look so good for the journalist at Citizen television.
What will be the aftermath of Jacque’s life after this saga ends? Below are educated hypotheses, I can’t read the future but I can see the way the tide is turning for her.
So what might she lose?
This is the most obvious one. Although probation is an often touted solution abroad for many cases, it is normally used when the case is minor. However, this case is serious as it involves murder.
Even if she is to get a plea deal as a state witness against her fiance, it would be changing her original story, which would be perjury. So most likely she would go to jail for a couple of years.
As a respected journalist, there are certain conditions in one’s contract. One of the most important is not bringing shame and disrepute to the company that you work for.
If this incident does not qualify as a monumental embarrassment for Citizen television, then I don’t know what would.
Her social standing
She might not have been regarded with the awe that her former stablemate Julie Gichuru but she did have her admirers.
That might all come tumbling down Bill Cosby style if it is found that Jacque actually had any part to do with Monica’s death either before or afterward.
If she is found guilty of the costly crimes of conspiracy, she may end up a guest of the state for many a year. While there she might congregate with people she reported about. Kama nani?
Miss Langata, Ruth Kamande who fatally stabbed her boyfriend 22 times. The only way she will be allowed to see her family, that is including her son is through visits to the prison she will be in.
Her happily ever after life with Joe
Is there a need for an explanation here. Nah. I thought so too!
