Ivy Wangeci's mother breaks down eulogizing her

Winfred Waithera, mother of slain Moi University sixth-year medical student Ivy Wangeci has spoken for the first time.

Ivy was hacked to death by Naftali Kinuthia who was well known to her and her family. They were childhood friends.

Speaking to the media at her home in Makongeni, Thika, Ivy's mother told those spreading malicious rumours about her daughter to stop and instead give them time to grieve.

That Ivy who is on social media is not Ivy Wangechi Gichuhi, that must be another Ivy. Not my daughter.

She went ahead to address rumours that Ivy's killer is the one who was paying her school fees. The tearful mother said:

Nobody else paid shool fees for Ivy apart from we the parents and the government of Kenya through J.A.B ( Joint Admissions Board).

She added:

She was my mentor and caretaker. I don't know how tomorrow will turn to be without my sweet Ivy.

Wangeci was set to graduate from Medical school during the course of the year. She will be buried on April 18, at the family's rural home in Mahiga, Othaya constituency Nyeri county.

According to the family's spokesperson, John King'ori, Ivy will be given a befitting send-off.
