Doreen Moraa is a brave woman. The HIV positive woman has won the hearts of many thanks to her tales – a journey living with HIV. Moraa uses social media to create awareness about HIV to encourage those living with the virus and fight stigma.
The bubbly activist-cum-YouTuber has never let her status deter her from doing what she does best. In her latest post, she wrote,
I have lived with HIV from 1992 to date,One thing I have learned is that HIV is a tiny virus I shouldn’t give it power over my life. I am the host HIV is my guest. Also, my HIV status does not define me but I define what HIV is in my life. I AM A BEAUTIFUL STORY 💜
Doreen’s parents found out she was HIV positive at the age of eight. Doreen Moraa’s siblings and her father are negative whereas she and her mother are positive.
‘I WAS BORN TO A HIV DISCORDANT COUPLE, MY MUM IS POSITIVE MY DAD IS NEGATIVE I’M THEIR THIRD BORN AND MY 3 OTHER SIBLINGS ARE VERY MUCH NEGATIVE. MY PARENTS FOUND OUT I WAS POSITIVE WHEN I WAS 8, MY DOCTORS SAID IF I REACH 13 THEN I’LL BE ABLE TO GROW UP A NORMAL CHILD BUT GOD WASN’T DONE WITH ME YET HE HAS ADDED ME 13 MORE YEARS AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING COZ I KNOW GOD’S NOT DONE WITH ME YET . I’M OPEN ABOUT MY HIV STATUS NOT BECAUSE OF THE PITY BUT BECAUSE ONE DAY I WANT SOMEONE TO LOOK AT ME AND SAY “BECAUSE OF YOU, I DID NOT GIVE UP” .
LIVING POSITIVELY ISN’T EASY BUT I REMIND MYSELF EVERYDAY THAT “I AM GREATER THAN HIV” AND THAT KEEPS ME GOING,’ she said a past social media.
