Rugby, a sport loved by many is one of the best performing sports in Kenya but the current situation might deter the young stars from achieving their dream. Yesterday, the U-19 rugby team which has been training for months in preparation for the upcoming Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa were shocked after their trip was cancelled.

An official from the Ministry of Sport wrote to the organizing committee of the Youth Commonwealth Games withdrawing Kenya from the Youth Commonwealth Games. The individual wrote without informing the Union. World Rugby has then removed Kenya and put another country. The decision by World Rugby cannot be reversed.

KRU Chief Executive Officer Ronald Bukusi has since asked why there were no consultations with the Union before the letter was written but so far, there are no clear answers. Kenyans on Twitter also tried tweeting the CS for Sports, Art and Culture Dr Hassan Wario demanding for an explanation from the same, but the concern seems to have fallen on a deaf ear as he has not replied to any.

With such people in leadership, do you think the Kenyan sports industry is still going to exist in the next 5 years?

Head coach Paul Odera has called for support for the young players as they are the future of the game.  Parents are equally disappointed and are worried the withdrawal will affect the boys in other areas. We hope that something is going to be done.
