John talked to his wife at 6:15 pm before the incident and speaking to Daily Nation, he said,

My wife had gone to get vegetables as she does on weekends. She called when she drove to the ferry and I knew she would be home soon.

The couple had been together for 13 years and had two kids Alvin the firstborn and Amanda the second born.

Wambua narrated how he learnt about the Likoni ferry incident on social media and when he tried to call his wife, he couldn't reach her.

I immediately attempted to call her to no avail.

He then headed to Likoni Ferry Police Station where he confirmed that his wife and their daughter had drowned.
