Tanzanian comedian Idris Sultan has refused to celebrate the birthday of President John Pombe Magufuli. Magufuli has today turned 61 years.
Last year, while celebrating the president’s birthday, Idris switched his face with that of Magufuli and wrote.
“WE SWAPPED ROLES FOR A DAY SO THAT HE COULD ENJOY HIS BIRTHDAY IN PEACE.”
Hours later, Idris was arrested under the Cybercrimes Act, which forbids the impersonation of another person.
Mid this year, Sultan was also arrested for laughing at a throwback photo of the Tanzanian President. He was detained and later released after spending several days behind bars.
He was also charged with owning and using a sim card that wasn’t registered in his name.
Well, the comedian now says he will only keep the birthday wishes to himself to avoid what happened to him last year.
“Siwezi sema Happy birthday kwa Magufuli mtandanoni manna sijui nani huko itamgusa atakasirika nijikute nasherehekea fanaka hii mwenyewe kwa bando langu mwenyewe mikono salama. Labda nikikutana nae inshaallah’
“I cannot say happy birthday to Magufuli online because I don’t know will get angry then I find myself celebrating him by myself. I will do this in peace. If I meet him, then I will”
