Gospel star Mercy Masika has said she was broke for seven years before getting a breakthrough in her career.

She became more popular in 2015 after her hit song "Mwema" received tremendous love from her fans, giving her more recognition, not just in Kenya, but across East Africa.

She said:

Washington DC WAS COLD BUT IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE TO SING AT THE  DINNER. IT WAS EXCITING TO MEET AND SiT NEXT TO AMBASSADORS AND DIGNITARIES.

She is planning to tour rural parts of Kenya and is working on a new song with the biggest Kenyan producer Cedo.

I'll be doing church tours in April. I'll tour Nakuru, Embu, meru. I'm excited about the new song I'm working on with Cedo next week.

Mercy said she she is an upcountry kind of girl and is always happy to perform there.
