Once-upon-a-time Ugandan superstar Jackie Chandiru, who battled drug addiction for a while is back in the music scene. The Golddigger hitmaker has released a new song The One featuring Kenyan artiste Arrow Bwoy.

Photos of the former Blu 3 singer looking emaciated emerged online and Ugandan media reported that she was using hard drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

Speaking about battling drug addiction during Instagram Live with Mpasho.co.ke, Chandiru denied using any narcotics.

I was addicted to a drug called pethidine;  it's a pain killer. The reason as to why I was addicted is  coz I sustained a back injury and was supposed to go for surgery but was told it would be 50-50. If it didn't work I wouldn't be able to walk and before the surgery, I was on pethidine; it takes away the pain.

She thought about the surgery and was afraid she wouldn't walk again.

"it (Pethidine)  was more of quick relief although from the start I was told it was very addictive. I ended up getting used to it after using it for sometime. I didn't use it to get high. I did it coz of my pain because I had to entertain and had to work," she added.

This affected Chandiru's career and she was fast forgotten. She was no longer doing music.

"Drug addiction affected my career. Got to a point where I didn't want to work or go to the studio. I just wanted to be by myself. It was so many things combined in one. Depression came in when people started creating false stories about me ...I literally closed up," she explained.

She continued,

I think it was a good thing it happened, otherwise, I wouldn't be the kind of woman I am today. It strengthened me and taught me that people can hold you way up there and on the other side they can throw you down and stamp on you.
