'I survived a plane and car crash,' Raphael Tuju narrates near death experience

God is a God of second chances and Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju knows that all too well.

The former Rarieda MP has survived two horrific accidents, a plane crash, and recently a car accident.

The veteran politician in an interview with The Star narrated how he survived a plane crash 17 years ago. The then Labor Minister Mohammed Khalif and two pilots perished in the crash after a 24 seater plane from Busia Airstrip to Kisumu hit a power line after take-off, but Tuju saw the hand of God.

I survived a plane crash before but this was more difficult. I had more injuries than in the plane crash,' he said.

Other politicians who survived the crash were Martha Karua and Linah Jebii Kilimo.

Comparing the plane and car accident, Tuju said,

That is very painful but not very dangerous. It’s the vertebrae that were dangerous. I broke three vertebrae. That was the most difficult one. That is what was operated on abroad to protect my spine.

Tuju was on his way to former President Moi's burial in Kabarak Nakuru, when the accident occurred. He was rushed to Kijabe hospital and later airlifted to UK on the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It’s been a tough war but the first thing I would like to do is to thank his Excellency the President. Under those circumstances, he never abandoned me. He made sure that I got the best care possible,' he said.
