John Legend has now opened up about his wife Chrissy Teigen's alcohol battle, explaining he 'just wants her to be happy' in a new interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.

Going shirtless in an Instagram snap from the couple's Mediterranean holiday, the singer, 38, looked happy and relaxed as he posed on Isola Molara off the coast of Corsica as his comments about his model wife's struggle came to light.

'We’re always honest with each other, so we discuss everything that’s on our minds,' Legend said. 'When she was thinking about how she wanted to drink less, we talked about it. I just want to support her.'

'I want her to be happy and to live the fullest, most awesome life she can, and I want us to do it together. Whenever she sets her mind to anything, I always tell her, 'I want to support you and help you do it".'

John, who got married to Chrissy after four years of dating, said he finds committing to one woman 'awesome', and while he admits that he wouldn't try and portray himself as the 'perfect spouse', he is proud of being a committed husband.

'I don't mind being known as somebody who's devoted to their wife. I am devoted to Chrissy. And when I write about [my commitment to her], it's me being authentic,' he said.

'I think it should be cool to be a good partner, a good spouse, a good father, and/or a good parent. If I'm one of the people who helps make that cooler, I think that's great.'

The singer's comments come after Chrissy, 31, revealed in a separate interview with Cosmopolitan magazine that she was 'point blank just drinking too much'.

Opening up about going sober, Chrissy told the publication: 'I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober. But now I get it. I don't want to be that person… I have to fix myself.

'I was, point blank, just drinking too much. I got used to being in hair and make-up and having a glass of wine.

'Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show.'

'And that feeling, there's just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It's not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.'

The couple embarked on a health-reset trip to Bali earlier this year, where they abstained from alcohol entirely.

Chrissy went on to say that her family has a history of alcohol abuse and she currently takes medication for postpartum depression and anxiety, both of which conflict with any alcohol intake.

Her need to cleanse her mind, body and soul was sparked by the couple's interest in adding another member to their family.

'A lot of stuff's about to come,' she said. 'We're going to try to have a child.

'This is for us to try to get in the zone of "let's travel, let's be away together, let's see our closest friends", and then we're going to have to do something super hard, which is the IVF process, all over again.

The A-list couple welcomed daughter Luna Simone Stephens into the world on April 14, 2016.

'I wouldn’t say we can’t conceive naturally, but I would say that it’s enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help,' John continued in his Cosmopolitan chat.

'We’re lucky that we’re living in an age where we can conceive in other ways. [IVF] brought us Luna and hopefully it will bring us a few more awesome kids, too.'
