Kikuyu Benga musician John Ng'ang'a, popularly known as  John DeMathew, is dead after he was involved in a grisly road accident at Thika Road on Sunday night.

DeMathew was alone in the car when it rammed into a lorry near Blue Post Hotel.

The driver of the lorry said that he was on his way to Sagana from Athi river when a speeding vehicle hit him in the back.

"When I got here at Blue Post, a car belonging to De Mathew hit me at the back. He was removed from the car by good samaritans who rushed him to hospital as I waited for the traffic police to show up," the driver told journalists at the scene.

Two weeks ago, DeMathew was in Embu to support young people through his project DeMathew Mashinani.

He supported women and promised to go back.

"Let the president do his work, the other porojos should come after his term is over. I have good things that I have planned for Kenyans and I don’t want to be coming here, give you stories, and leave your kids hungry, and go back to Nairobi .i will be supporting women and everyone will benefit from that," HE SAID IN eMBU.

He has been celebrated by many as one of the best-known artistes of many generations.

Moses Kuria wrote;

"I have received with utter shock and deep sorrow the passing on of my friend, my brother and my comrade John De Mathew. John was not an artist. I have always referred to him as a modern Kikuyu prophet- Munabii- alongside the late Joseph Kamaru and Muigai wa Njoroge. Rest in Peace our prophet."
