Tuju broke 12 ribs and suffered head and neck injuries as well during the nasty accident long Nairobi - Nakuru highway.

Speaking in an interview with The Star on Sunday from his Karen home, Tuju said,

I lost a lot of blood bleeding internally. This [accident] you only survive by the grace of God. There is no other way…I have realized God loves me.

He went ahead to narrate how his life changed and the progress made after he was treated at a UK hospital.

I am on the mend. At least every day I have made progress. I was in a wheelchair, then on two crutches, now I am able to manage with one crutch and this has progressively happened every day.

Tuju was in the company of his driver and a bodyguard when the accident occurred. He was unconscious and talking about the incident he said,

I don't remember anything after that. I only found myself in bed in the UK, that's when I recognised exactly where I was.

The politician is slowly recuperating at his home and he said,

The main challenge I have now is a lot of pain. It’s a lot of pain. That is something you don’t want to wish even on your worst enemy.

Raphael Tuju is thankful to God for giving him another chance to live.

You thank God to be alive. No plans are more important than your life,' he said.
