A man who stabbed his wife inflicting serious injuries while under the influence of alcohol was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kabarnet court charged with assault.

William Cheptumo was charged that on January 21, this year, at Kingoi village in Baringo North Sub County, he allegedly assaulted Lydia Chepkwony, by stabbing her with a kitchen knife on the left shoulder causing bodily harm.

When he appeared before Resident Magistrate Viennah Amboko, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge claiming the mother of his children has raised false accusation against him.

"I did not stab her, she slipped at the door and hurt herself with a knife she had on her hand," Cheptumo said.

The complainant told the court that on a material day at around 7.30 pm she was doing her daily house chores when her husband arrived home while drunk, picked a quarrel and started beating her before removing a knife from his trouser pocket which he used to stab her on the shoulder.

"It has always been a daily norm for my husband to beat me for no apparent reason, in fact, I have several scars and injuries all over my body sustained during the uncalled for beatings," she also said.

After committing the offence, the complainant stated, the husband escaped under the cover of darkness leaving her writhing in great pain adding that after regaining strength she sought treatment at Kabartonjo sub-county hospital.

She further told the court that the following day, she reported the matter to Kabartonjo police station where she was issued with a P3 form and warrant of arrest for the runway husband.

The magistrate released the accused on Sh 50,000 bond with one surety of same amount or a cash bail of Ksh20, 000.

The case was fixed for hearing on February 11.
