Chonga Gambo Mwagambo aka Chonga Chonga is a resident of Mombasa known for his love of carrying coffins on his head.
The father of two ferries coffins from his workshop to the Coast General hospital mortuary every day.
In an interview with the Nairobian, Chonga Gambo revealed that he has been in this business for almost 10 years and he enjoys it.
“When I started, I used to receive an odd look. Everyone was shocked why I chose such a job. I have done this job for 10 years and I charge Sh50 to Sh100 to ferry a coffin to the mortuary,” said the coffin carrier.
He added that:
“I carry at least six coffins daily. Business is good on Fridays and booms mostly in December.”
The ‘coffin carrier’ says his wife and children who reside upcountry, don’t know his occupation.
“I love this job since it pays my bills. I have educated my kids and I am happy,” he said
