The widow of Olympic champion Samuel Wanjiru yesterday gave an emotional testimony, recalling how she fought a woman in their bedroom minutes before his death.

An emotional Triza Njeri, 29 cried as she narrated her encounter with the woman on May 15, 2011.

“It was about 11pm when I entered the bedroom and saw a woman sleeping next to my husband. She jumped on me and held my neck,”

“She asked me, 'What are you doing here and this is my house?' I told her it’s my house too. She then told me she was Kamau's wife and I was supposed to be in Nairobi,” Njeri said.

She was testifying at the inquest that is trying to establish if the late marathoner was killed or his death at the couple’s palatial home in Nyahururu was an accident.

The mother of two told the court of the intrigues of their volatile relationship, which began after she caught Kamau at their househelp in bed in December 2010.

The incident, she said, made Kamau very angry after she confronted the two.

“He got his gun and frog-matched me and his cousin, who was staying with us, and threatened to shoot me,” Njeri recalled

On the fateful night, Njeri said she rescued herself from the lady’s grip and run outside before locking a grilled-gate that leads to the bedroom.

But while she was outside the house, Kamau appeared from the balcony of the bedroom and ordered her to open the door.

She refused and instead, called the area OCS to inform him of the incident.

But Kamau could not hear of it and threatened to jump from the balcony if she failed to open the door.

“When I realised he was going to jump, I left and went to seek help at a neighbouring school”

She did not get help and decided to call a family friend who took her to Nyahururu police station.

On their way to the station, Njeri said, she learnt that her husband had actually jumped and got injured.

But it was not until 7am she heard from a police officer that Kamau had died.
