A Nairobi pastor was on Monday charged in Nakuru with obtaining Sh600,000 by falsely pretending he could help his church follower buy two jet engines.

Zakari Njoroge, a senior pastor at Jehovah Jireh in Kahawa West, was accused of falsely pretending to help Jane Wambui acquire two jet engines at Sh300,000 each from Kenya Airways.

Wambui used to attend Njoroge’s church when she was in Nairobi. She was constantly in touch with the pastor until he broke all contact with her.

Wambui said Njoroge posed as a manager at Kenya Airways and claimed he was in a position to help her acquire the jet engines.

He told her the auctioning of the engines was to take place in August. However, Njoroge later disappeared and blocked her numbers.

Wambui said she took a loan and deposited the money into a Bank account belonging to the clergyman.

Njoroge denied the charges and urged the court to set him free.
