It’s a double victory for former Citizen TV reporter Hussein Mohammed after he received a Presidential award on the day of his graduation.
The outspoken journalist received the Moran of the Burning Spear award on Friday, December 20.
in the same breath, Hussein also graduated with a Masters in Diplomacy and International Studies from the University of Nairobi.
The personalities nominated for presidential awards are recognised for “outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities”.
Awards are made by the president upon the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president’s office.
Individuals are nominated for awards by district committees, government ministries, religious organizations, non-governmental organizations, individuals and others.
The award that Hussein got is under the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya
- 1st Class – Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.)
- 2nd Class – Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.)
- 3rd Class – Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (M.G.H.)

Hussein’s award comes almost three months after he resigned from his job leaving millions of his loyal fans heartbroken.
