Lupita Nyong'o has been branded a snob by Kenyans after winning an Oscar for her role in 12 Years A Slave. To her accusers, Lupita forgot her country, especially after when she was late in posting on social media about the slain Garissa students. There are those who felt that her delayed post was offensive.

However, unknown to many, is that the experience of winning the Oscar and the fame that comes with it has not been easy on Lupita. She has had a tough time adjusting to her new status. In June 2014, Lupita was named as one of the key note speakers at a Massachusetts Conference for Women.

This was a big deal for her and what she said during the conference has made one of the most quotable speeches of all time.

"You know, I thought it would come to an end after the Oscars,’ she told Harper's Bazaar UK in their April 2015 cover story. She had probably underestimated the weight of the buzz that comes with the award. Everyone craves an Oscar. Actors who have long been in the game - think of Leonardo Di Caprio and Ryan Gosling - wish they could win the award!

‘I thought the Oscars would come and go and then all of a sudden everything would be back to normal and I’d be back in my apartment." she added.

At the conference, she addressed over 10,000 women on the challenges that come with the achievement.

"‘Lately, I have been afraid of not being able to handle all these new expectations,’ she said to the audience. ‘To the world I have achieved the pinnacle of success in my field, and yet I still have the rest of my life to go," she revealed. Being a go-getter, she did not stop at just being a famous Oscar award winner. She has since taken on more roles; Star Wars, Disney's Queen of Katwe and Non Stop.

‘Not even just you, but how the world deals with it, and deals with you because of it. There’s no manual for that,’ the Lancome USA ambassador opened up. She's since gotten a grip of how the Hollywood realm works and has consistently put Kenya on the global map.

She made headlines in March when her Calvin Klein dress was stolen from a Los Angeles hotel and recently when she dropped by Naivasha for her sister's wedding. The most recent place she's been spotted is in South Africa where she spent time with Kenya's Just A Band and comedian Trevor Noah.
