Homa Bay county acting ODM chair Monica Amolo was among four people who lost their lives in a road accident in Ogeng centre, Ndhiwa constituency on Tuesday night. Others who died in the accident include Amolo's bodyguard, driver and a female occupant.

They were travelling back to Homa Bay county from Ndhiwa when their vehicle rammed into a lorry.

Nyando MP Fred Outa confirmed the incident stating that their bodies have since been taken to Gendia hospital. A fifth passenger survived the accident and has also been taken to the hospital  with serious injuries.

Outa expressed his condolences terming the accident as saddening.

Homa Bay Women Rep Gladys Wanga is also at the scene.

"We mourn the death of Monica Amolo, the Ag Chairperson of Homabay Branch through a tragic road accident in Homabay this evening" a statement from ODM reads.

Amolo's death comes at the close of campaigns for the Homa Bay Senator by-election. She has been among senior ODM officials who have campaigned vigorously for the party's flag bearer Moses Kajwang' ahead of Thursday's election.

Her death  follows that of ODM leader Raila Odinga's son, Fidel Odinga in January, and Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang' who passed away in November last year.
