A court in Busia was left in shock after a suspect begged the magistrate to send him to jail.

Oliver Obura, who had been charged with trafficking narcotics, stunned the court that he was looking forward to utilize the skills learnt in prison to earn income and abandon crime. This, he did, despite the fact that he had not been sentenced yet.

He had been arrested after he was found transporting 45 stones of bhang packed in a sack using a motorbike.

“Your honor, life outside here is very tough especially if you do not have any skills and so I ask the court to imprison me so that I can gain some skills which will enable me live a better life once I come out, “he said in mitigation.

He pleaded guilty before Chief Magistrate, Daniel Ogolla and was sentenced to four years in jail.
