A police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed and seriously wounded in a robbery incident in Mathare, Nairobi on Monday.

The officer was in civilian attire and was walking to his house at Mathare depot when he was confronted by four men who were on a robbery mission.

And when he resisted, they stabbed him in the chest and stomach before grabbing unknown amount of money and other valuables before escaping on foot. No arrest has been made.

Cases of police officers being attacked by robbers are on the rise this year.

Police said Martin Korir of Ruaraka SPIV was on a matatu on his way home when the vehicle was carjacked by thugs.

In January, an AP officer was stabbed to death by suspected bhang peddlers in Kigumo, Muranga county. He and three colleagues had gone to apprehend the suspects.

The officer of Kigumo AP headquarters died shortly after the attack at around 7pm at Mariira trading centre.
