The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is a state corporation established under the National Insurance Fund Act, number 9 of 1998.

The Fund is mandated to facilitate access to quality healthcare through registration of members, collection of contributions and payment of claims arising from services rendered to members in all accredited healthcare facilities across the country. NHIF works to secure financial risk protection against the cost of healthcare services for all Kenyan residents through prudent financial management of resources contributed by the members both from formal and informal sector of the economy.

NHIF SUPA Cover is Kenya’s largest, reliable, accessible and affordable medical insurance cover that enables you and your family to enjoy an unparalleled benefit package. Supa Cover costs Kshs. 500 per month for the principal members and beneficiaries.

What Does SUPA Cover Entail?

Out Patient Cover: Out Patient Care Cover includes both preventive & curative services; consultation, laboratory investigations, drugs administration & dispensing, daycare procedures, radiological examinations, health education, wellness and counselling, physiotherapy services, immunization,/ vaccines as per the KEPI schedule among others.

In-patient Cover: This covers hospital stay with health care diagnosis, procedure and treatment. Access: This package is offered on a comprehensive care basis at contracted facilities.

Maternity and Child Health Care: This caters for pregnancy related health services: ante natal care, midwifery services, delivery through Normal delivery or caesarian section and post-natal care. Newborn care, vaccinations, breastfeeding advice are provided up to 6 weeks after delivery.

Renal Dialysis and Kidney Transplant package: The Package includes care for prescribed renal conditions through dialysis as an intervention and other related treatment.

Overseas treatment for specialized surgeries not available locally: Medical and surgical intervention that is not available in the country subject to pre-authorization by NHIF. The cover also caters for travel costs. It also reimburses claims related to emergency treatment incurred while the member is temporarily outside the country on official duty.

Road Ambulance services: Local road ambulance to hospital for emergency cases. Access: Amref Kenya.

Access: Most are offered comprehensively at contracted hospitals and maybe subject to preauthorization by NHIF
