At a time where we are on opposite sides of the spectrum moneywise; most of us are still struggling to actively save more and spend less.
Most of the time, we spend large sums of money but in tiny quantities unconsciously and before we know it, we are crying broke and have no money to use on important things. The question therefore is, can we do better?
Can we cut down on spending?
Here are a few ways that could help you save more this year.
1. Devise a cheaper phone plan
Opt for a monthly subscription as opposed to daily. This will ensure you don’t keep loading airtime every other time hence you will find yourself saving a lot more.
2. Pack your own water bottle
Carrying your own water will reduce chances of you buying water on the streets so that is 50 bob or 30 bob saved. You can also refill your bottle if you are in an office setting.
3. Track monthly expenses
With the digital age, there have been apps devised to help you track your spending habits.
4. Cook your own meals
Instead of always eating out and spending so much money on food that you can cook yourself, why not cook for yourself and eat at the comfort of your house?
5. Bring your lunch to work
Cook enough food that you can carry the extra to work the following day. This way, you avoid buying the overly priced foods at your workplace
6. Invite your friends over instead of going out
You would be surprised at how much you spend only for one night out. If you could minimize on the “outs”, and maximize on quality indoors time, you are one step closer to saving more.
7. Thrift shop
Try as much as possible to integrate with your dressing a few thrift pieces. They are cheap, unique and almost always come in handy.
8. Take public transportation ever so often
Public transportation can be very economical as compared to constantly fuelling one’s car. Once in awhile, embrace public means and save a few extra coins.
9. Do not overspend on hygiene products
Women especially are enticed by every product that makes a debut in the market scene and for some reason, we end up buying most of these products. My two cents, get a product that works for you and stick to it. It will save you the trouble of always buying new products.
10. Make a list and stick to it
Every beginning of the month, make a list of all the things that you need and would like to buy. Go through the month while checking off everything. This will keep you disciplined and remind you to stick to what you wrote on the list.
