For weeks now people have been speculating on whether legendary gospel music icon Mary Atieno is being mistreated by her hubby, Bishop Ominde.

One of her relatives, only identified as Sophie, was quoted on social media saying,

"Mary is my niece. I visited them in Umoja. The husband spoke to me through the door's key hole saying Mary was away. Everything about that day was suspect."

While another relative who was also identified as Mary said, "Mary is my relative. Everything being said about that man is true. Mary is fearful nowadays and timid. She refuses to admit it and keeps saying that she will pray about it. Mary works as teacher. She has no control over her money. She can't even buy herself a dress, unless that man approves. She is a classic example of a prisoner in her own house."

These sentiments were echoed by gospel singer Vicky Kitonga.

"I know there is no problem too big that God cannot solve..." Vicky Kitonga wrote on her Facebook explaining to fans  how things are for legendary gospel singer Mary Atieno.

Adding, "Trust me something is being done. At least from my side. The Lady Gospel Ministers are working out something."

Vicky was inspired by Mary Atieno growing up and watching her on TV.

"When I was a little girl, gospel icon and my mentor, Mary Atieno was already in Voice of Kenya TV (V.O.K) singing her heart out and ministering so powerfully. I told my mom many times that ‘I want to sing like Mary Atieno'. Mum made sure she connected me with her. She has been my mentor. When life presented its worst to me, she took time to call me every now and then, sing for me on phone and most of all pray for me which left me very uplifted. I’m standing because of God using Mary Atieno to encourage me."

Vicky is known for hit singles like Amenikumbuka, Tulia and Hapa Kenya

"I have spoken to my Mentor Mary Atieno. I know there is no problem too big that God cannot solve. I won’t say much.

Friends, please take time and Pray for my Mentor Pastor Mary Atieno. We all have our struggles. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them. This too shall pass away and she will be okay. The songs that she will write will shake this world. Let’s desist from judging and making conclusions. God is the best Judge," Vicky said in the update.
