Brittany Ernsperger, from Milford, Indiana, posted a picture for her followers of stacked up pots and pans in her kitchen to demonstrate the every day struggles that people with mental illness go through.

'This is what depression looks like,' her post begins. 'No. Not the clean dishes. But that there were that many dishes in the first place; that I've gone two weeks without doing them.'

'And the worst part of it all, it’s not just with the dishes. The laundry, cleaning, dressing yourself, taking a shower, dressing your kids, brushing your and their teeth, normal everyday tasks,' she continued.

'It all becomes a nightmare. A very daunting task. Some days it doesn’t get done at all.'

Her candid post goes on to inspire other people that they, too, can find strength within themselves to celebrate completing every task that life throws at them and being comfortable to talk with people about what they are going though.

'Depression is something that “strong” people don’t talk about because they don’t want people to think they’re “weak”.

'You’re not weak. You’ve been strong for so long and through so many things, that your body needs a break.

'I don’t even care if the only thing you did today, was put deodorant on. I’m proud of you for it. Good job. I’m in your corner. I’m on your side,' Brittany wrote.

The Facebook post has since been shared more than 184,000 times as people have thanked Brittany for opening up about her personal struggles with depression.

'Wow. Spot on. Thank you for sharing this piece of yourself. I’m sure so many can identify, as I do,' one commenter wrote after reading the post.

Another person called Brittany 'courageous' for being so willing to share such an emotional insight into her own life.

Brittany was overwhelmed with all the support she received from people online after her post and said she is going to do more inspirational writings in the future to help others.
