'...he was tormented and forced to send us the money,' Kenei's father and brother speak

The family of slain officer Sgt Kipyegon Kenei, attached to DP Ruto's office is seeking justice.

The father of two was found dead inside his house at Imara Daima's Villa Franca Estate on February 20.

The 33-year-old cop had visited his family in Chamasis village in Rongai, Nakuru county for two days before he returned to Nairiobi on Sunday.

On Wednesday, February 21, a few minutes past midnight, his wife Judith received Sh35,000 from him  She sent question marks asking if the money was hers but he never responded.

The following morning, his father received Ksh10,000, which the family said was unusual. They tried to reach him but was offline. His social media accounts were deleted and the family couldn't reach him.

Speaking to the Standard from his home, Kenei's father John Chesang said hsi son used to switch off his phone every night at 9:00pm whenever he got home.

He would tell us that his job was demanding and that he needed time to relax after 9pm, and that is why he would switch off his phone,' the heartbroken father said.

Adding,

The death of my son has taken a toll on our family. We suspect he was tormented, forced to send us the money by assailants who killed him.

Kenei's brother Kevin Mutai also questioned why there were no bloodstains at the scene of crime, calling upon the DCI to speed up the investigations.

We want to know who was calling him and the message they were having. It is such information that will lead to key suspects in his mysterious death arrested,' he told journalists.
