Last month, the country was awed by news of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s watch. Actually, I really should be saying his opulent machine because a Casio is also a watch, but not really worth mentioning. A Seiko will also put a dent in your wallet. But what Uhuru Kenyatta wears on his wrist is an investment – a CHRONOGRAPH.
That information was however relegated to the back of many minds as we were regaled by the political wrestling match between Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho. Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few days and shacking up with Mr. Slug, you’re well aware of the drug war that has now taken a political twist aye?
The war has now moved further on and is now being waged on the wrists of both men.
As I said earlier, Uhuru Kenyatta was spotted wearing an Arnold & Son that retails for a cool Sh2.1 million.
Hold on, let me give you a closer look at the device:
This watch is called the HM Perpetual Moon and retails for between $21,000 and $25,000 (Sh21.6 million and Sh2.58 million).
Now allow me to reveal to you the watch Joho rocks on his wrist. It’s A Selfwinding Audemar Piguet Royal Oak, 41MM and the Bezel is made of pink gold encrusted with Diamonds!
According to the Audemars Piguet official website, the chronograph’s specifications are:
166 brilliant-cut diamonds; approx. 3.09 carats (case, bezel, buckle) 345 diamonds 8/8-cut, approx. 1.07 carats (dial).
18-carat pink gold case, entirely set with diamonds, glare proofed sapphire crystal and caseback, screw-locked crown.
Diamond-paved dial, pink gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.
Hand-stitched “large square scale” grey alligator strap with diamond-set 18-carat pink gold AP folding clasp.
This amounts to approximately Ksh73,688,469 and some cents with the current exchange rate. Yes, that’s a large number so let’s break it down…that’s seventy-three million, six hundred and eighty-eight thousand and four hundred and sixty-nine shillings.
It’s ok if you need to take a seat and re-read that.
