Music is no longer just a talent for show but is now a well paying job. In the African music industry, we have many musicians but only few of them produce quality music. We have seen many come and go but only a few have been able to stay relevant; they are the lucky ones.

Unlike in the past, music today is highly commercialized and earns the artistes some good money. We have seen many musicians feature in adverts for well-known companies, like COCA COLA, PEPSI, REXONA, Beauty Products, etc. That's why most of them are living large; their flashy lifestyles tell it all.

Recently, Forbes released it's 2015 list of top 10 richest African Musicians and shockingly no woman made it to the list. It mainly comprised men from West Africa. No one from East Africa featured in the top 10, and this has raised many questions than answers. But I was not surprised, East Africans tend to support West African music more than local tunes. Nigerian music in particular is more popular at local clubs as this is the kind of music that the current generation loves.

Who is going to support local talent, the likes of Diamond Platnumz, Jose Chameleone, Jaguar and the rest, if you we don't promote their music?
