A middle-aged woman was arraigned at a Kabarnet court Monday for assaulting her hospitalised grandmother.

Emily Jeposkwony was charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the penal code.

The particulars of the case stated that on March 5, 2021, at about 4:30 pm at Tenges Health Centre in Baringo Central Sub-county within Baringo county, Jeposkwony unlawfully assaulted Shokwei Cheruiyot who is nursing burning bruises thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

Appearing before senior principal magistrate Paul Biwott the accused denied the charges labelled against her.

"It is not true, I was trying to help her by cutting the nails and accidentally pricked the wounds,” said Jeposkwony.

The prosecution counsel Joseck Abwajo prayed for more time because the treatment note had not yet been brought to the court.

The magistrate who did not oppose the submission ordered the accused to be released on an Sh50,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh 10,000.

The case was fixed for hearing on April 12, 2021, where four witnesses have been lined up to testify.
