Gracious Amani sang a cover of Alicia’s Keys song that brought many Kenyans including the singer herself to praise her talents.
While the rendition of “girl on fire” has got many admirers it has got the family into hot fire. What happened exactly? Well, as you will have it, people including malcontents took note of the attention that Gracious and her family had got and decided to start extorting the family.
Why would they do this? They thought that with the increased exposure that the family was getting that money was also flowing in.
This resulted in Amani’s brother being attacked by people who demanded money from him. Speaking in a candid interview with Citizen TV’s Lilian Muli on Saturday, June 30, Amani’s mother Christine Ambuso explained. She said:
”After the video went viral we started receiving threats and at some point my son was attacked. People started demanding money from us thinking that we have been making money from the video and interviews.”
Unlike Amani’s family that is already being hounded after the viral video, some internet sensations are able to translate the hype they get into bigger and better.
Justin Bieber, one of the biggest stars in the world was discovered after he posted numerous videos of him singing on Youtube. Eventually, his manager Scooter Braun took notice and flew him to see Usher.
As they say, the rest is history. A feel-good story for those who hope the “Githurai girl” may have such story-book ending.
