A train ferrying fuel fell off its track and into the ocean at Kibarani in Mombasa County early on Sunday morning.

Reports indicated that there were no casualties and police have not given a report on this.

The incident at about 4.30am resulted in a gridlock.

Police closed Changamwe-Mombasa road and redirected motorists to Mavueni route.

Those headed to Nairobi or Moi International Airport were asked to use the Mwakirunge-Kaloleni route.

Pedestrians were blocked from crossing to the mainland or the island until officers and fire fighters clear the scene.

A comprehensive statement will be issued once the operation is completed.
