Safiri salama! From Dr Adisa to Ken Ouko, prominent Kenyans who've succumbed to Covid-19

Covid-19 pandemic has ravaged the World. The virus is spreading so fast and has claimed over 680,000 lives across the globe. In Kenya, the death toll has risen to 382 with 22,597 infected cases and 8,740 recoveries.
Well, among those who've succumbed are health workers, showbiz players, religious leaders, just to mention but a few. Their loss is a clear indication that coronavirus doesn't discriminate on race, skin colour, status or age.

From Dr Adisa to Papa Shirandula, here are prominent Kenyans we've lost to coronavirus.

  1. Marian Awuor Adumbo

She was a nurse working at the Rachuonyo sub-county Hospital in Homa Bay. She succumbed COVID-19 related complications at a Kisii health facility a week after giving birth.

2. Dr Doreen Adisa Lugaliki

She was the first medical practitioner to succumb to COVID-19.

She was an obstetrician and gynaecologist at Nairobi South Hospital until her untimely death.

Dr Adisa left behind twins; a boy and a girl aged 13 years old.

3. Dr Ken Ouko

The renowned sociologist, who was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi died of Covid-19 complications while receiving treatment at the Aga Khan hospital.

He breathed his last on August 1, 2020.

4. Charles Bukeko

The veteran actor died from Covid-19 complications as well.

Popularly known as Papa Shirandula, the former Cocacola brand ambassador left behind a widow and three children.

5. Antony Waswa

The younger brother of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi passed away in May at the Aga Khan hospital where he was admitted.

The 48-year-old was the personal assistant to Wanyonyi and his funeral was attended by 60 people.

6. Reverend Peter Kaniah

The PCEA secretary-general died on July 26 at the Nairobi hospital while receiving treatment for complications related to Covid-19.

The senior University of Nairobi school of Engineering lecturer from Bumula died of Covid-19 related complications at the Nairobi Hospital in mid-July, this year.

So far the University of Nairobi has been the most affected, losing five lecturers and staff members to Covid-19.
