After waiting for more than 3 months, Obama finally came home. It was pomp and colour at JKIA as president Uhuru, Obama's relatives amongst other top personalities received Obama. All the local TV stations reported live from the airport to ensure that their viewers did not to miss out on the historic arrival of the first sitting US president to set foot on Kenyan soil.

After staying in Kenya, the land of his father for three days, Obama then traveled to Ethiopia for two days where he met with AU officials among them Uhuru Kenyatta where they discussed the civil war in Africa's youngest nation; South Sudan.

People around the world have been busy on social media comparing Obama's reception in the two countries and below are some of the major differences we noticed about his visit to Ethiopia compared to Kenya.

1. Security

In both countries security was tight but in Ethiopia when Obama was inspecting the guard of honor, His ADC was not behind him; he did it alone but while in Kenya, he inspected the guard of honor with his ADC and this tells alot, the US didn't trust Kenya's security no wonder we are referred to as "the terror hotbed".

2. Purpose of his visit

In Kenya it was all about visit and pleasure. Obama had some private time with his family members, his grandmother Sarah Obama, half sister Auma Obama amongst other family members before embarking on business. But in Ethiopia, Obama went there for business; to talk about problems affecting Africa such as corruption, security and ethnicity.

3. The Red carpet

When a leader or top personality visits a place, We always expect to see the red carpet being rolled and then the person walks over. In Kenya, Obama was given a heroic welcome but in Ethiopia, he walked on half carpet 'nusu mkeka" which raised various reactions amongst social media users. Is he not the son of Africa?

4. Trends

When it comes to creativity, Kenyans are always number one. They will create something out of nothing. While in Kenya, Kenyans came up with as many trends linking to Obama as they could. #ObamaInKenya was the main trend listed by Twitter but Kenyans came up with other trends such as #ObamaReturns, #KideroGrass, #ObamaHomecoming #NowThatObamaIsGone just to mention but a few that showed how people across Africa valued their son. In Ethiopia, we only saw one trend #Ethiopia which didn't even trend for long. The internet penetration in Ethiopia was 2% compared to Kenya which was above 50%.
