'Death, where is your victory?' Memusi's siblings mourn him

Gone too soon: Memusi never failed to see the funny side of any situation

• MP Davis Sankok's family paid a moving tribute, "We all knew that if anything needed to be done, Memusi would do it. If anything needed to be said, Memusi would say it. He was of course many other things to each different member of our family.

Memusi will always be alive in each of us forever. It is that memory of Memusi that makes it so hard for us."

At 15 years old, Hilary Memusi reached the end of his life after he took his own life on May 2 at his father's home in Narok.

That has left his family and friends with sadness and many unanswered questions. He is being buried today at his father's home in Ewaso Nyiro, Narok.

The family in the obituary book stated, "It is strange, unreal, unbelievable, that Memusi will no longer be with us. It will take us a long, long time if ever, for us to come to terms with his death. He has been our family's unique source of laughter and joy."

They added, "He was too good to die so suddenly. He was too young to die at all. It is with great sorrow and profound sadness that we bid farewell to our beloved son, brother and friend of many, May God grant you eternal rest Memusi. We will miss you beyond measure and you will always be in our hearts. Rest in Peace."

Memusi's siblings penned a tear-jerking tribute about his death.

It read, "Memusi our beloved brother and friend... We are dumbfounded and lacking words to express the pain in our hearts that you are no longer with us. Your outstanding smile, wit and unique persona... are some of the beautiful memories we will cherish."

They continued, "Death in its undefined and cruel ways has robbed you away from us, we are certain that one of these days it will be defeated."

They quoted the Bible verse, I Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?

Their tribute ended with the sibling wishing Memusi the best in the afterlife.

"May angels receive you in heaven, God's ample abode...Till we meet again...Your loving siblings; Naserian, Ledama, Simayo, Sanare and Sintalo."

Memusi's family described him using endearing terms.

"The first enduring trait of Memusi which anyone who knew him will never forget is the cheeky sense of humour. Memusi never failed to see the funny side of any situation and to express it in his own unique way. He spread laughter and joy effortlessly.

At home, any time Memusi walked in, we all knew we would smile, no matter what was going on. And that was the second unforgettable thing about Memusi: his smile.

He smiled easily and often, exuding warmth and mischief depending on the occasion, and forcing anyone around him to smile back. He was a happy soul.

The other enduring personality of Memusi that we shall never forget as a family is his strong and firm sense of responsibility. People outside the family might not have known it but within the family, we all knew we could count on Memusi.

Especially, his siblings. We all knew that if anything needed to be done, Memusi would do it. If anything needed to be said, Memusi would say it. He was of course many other things to each different member of our family.

Memusi will always be alive in each of us forever. It is that memory of Memusi that makes it so hard for us."
